Outdoor Kitchen Countertops for Southwest Florida

The best outdoor kitchen countertops in Florida stand up to sun, heat and rain. Granite is a long proven outdoor stone, porcelain is UV stable and non-porous, and quartzite holds its color well. Quartz is not recommended in direct sun. We build outdoor kitchen countertops for lanais, pool areas and patios across Southwest Florida.

How it works

  1. Step 1: Plan the space

Tell us where the grill, sink, fridge and seating will go, and whether the area is covered.

  2. Step 2: Choose an outdoor ready stone

We help you pick a material that suits sun, heat and rain.

  3. Step 3: Templating

We measure the base and the appliance cutouts precisely.

  4. Step 4: Fabrication and installation

We cut, finish and install the tops, including any full height backsplash.

Which countertop is best for an outdoor kitchen in Florida?

Sun, heat and rain decide it. Granite is a long proven outdoor choice, and porcelain is UV stable and non-porous. Quartzite also holds up well outdoors. Some quartz and marble can fade or discolor in direct sun, so many manufacturers advise indoor use only.

Here is the short version for a Florida backyard:

  • Granite countertops: tough, heat tolerant and proven outdoors. Needs periodic sealing.
  • Porcelain countertops: UV stable, non-porous and never needs sealing. Protect the edges from impact.
  • Quartzite countertops: very hard and holds its color in the sun. Needs sealing.
  • Quartz: not recommended in direct sun, because the resin can fade or yellow.

Does a covered lanai change the choice?

Yes. A screened or fully covered lanai protects the stone from direct sun and most rain, which opens up more options. Our project gallery includes screened lanai kitchens with veined stone countertops. An open patio by the pool needs the toughest materials, because it sees full sun, rain and splashes every day.

What should I plan for the grill and sink?

Plan the appliances before the stone. Have your grill, side burner, outdoor fridge and sink chosen before templating, so the cutouts match. Bar sinks are common outdoors, from square and rounded bar sinks to a narrow prep sink; see the sizes on our countertop sinks page. Many outdoor kitchens also add a full height stone backsplash behind the grill, up to the hood or the ceiling, which protects the wall and looks finished.

Do you work with pool and outdoor living builders?

Yes. If a builder or pool company is managing your project, we can coordinate measurements and timing with them, and you still pick your stone with us. Whether it is a new build or an update to an existing lanai, see examples in our project gallery, compare materials in our countertop materials comparison, and request your countertop estimate when you are ready.

Outdoor kitchens questions

Can marble be used in an outdoor kitchen?

Under a covered lanai, yes, and some of the outdoor kitchens in our gallery use marble. In full sun and rain, marble can lose its polish and etch over time, and it needs regular sealing. If your outdoor kitchen is uncovered, granite, quartzite or porcelain will age better. We can show you marble and its alternatives side by side at the showroom.

Do outdoor countertops need sealing?

Natural stone outdoors, like granite and quartzite, needs sealing just like it does indoors, and sometimes more often because of rain, pollen and pool water. Use the water test to know when to reseal. Porcelain is non-porous and never needs sealing, which is one reason it is popular for outdoor kitchens in full sun.

Will dark granite get hot in the sun?

Yes. Any dark stone in direct Florida sun can get hot to the touch in the afternoon. If your outdoor kitchen faces west or has no roof, consider a lighter granite, a light quartzite or porcelain for the bar top where people rest their arms. Under a covered lanai, dark stone stays comfortable and looks great.
